AIR with Flavour® the innovative concept that allows persons who are unable to eat and drink normally the ability to taste again. The airy foam is designed for persons who are nil by mouth due to severe dysphagia or other swallowing disorders and therefore must be usually fed through a PEG tube. e.g. as a result of Stroke, Dementia, Brain Injury, Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Head and Neck Cancer, Palliative & Intensive Care.
How It Works
The Air with Flavour® sachet is mixed with your chosen flavoured liquid and aerated with micro air bubbles to create a lightweight airy foam which can be spooned into a patients mouth providing moment of intense pleasure! AIR with Flavour® can be added to almost any liquid (e.g. juice, soup, coffee, wine, beer, curry sauce, gravy etc) and transformed into incredible taste experience! The special foam instantly disappears leaving no liquid or solids in the mouth and no need to swallow.
Enhance Life Quality
In the most severe form of dysphagia, the person affected can no longer be fed in the normal way, this not only affects a person’s ability to eat and drink but has much wider implications for a person’s general health, mental health and social interaction. AIR with Flavour® can be used to minimise distress from the symptoms of severe dysphagia, as a result, the quality of life of the person affected is demonstrably improved by the memory stimulation of aromas, smells and tastes providing unique taste experiences, allowing them to enjoy flavours of their choosing whilst being free from the distress that swallowing problems and choking often present.
AIR with Flavour® can be used as a low risk option in swallow therapy allowing persons the experience of taste with a reduced risk of aspiration. It has been used to provide a low risk starting point for the assessment and management of swallowing impairments enabling information to be gathered regarding the pre-oral, oral and pharyngeal phase of the swallow.
In addition, AIR with Flavour® used in mouth care during palliative care and end of life nursing maintains comfort, self-esteem and dignity. Foamed mouthwash can be used for oral hygiene and to freshen the breath. Used with water or flavoured liquids the AIR with Flavour® can be used to moisten and hydrate the mouth, a refreshing change.
